Is Banner Blindness Really Real? Really?

I came across this image (below the video) on Three Minds yesterday. It's about Banner Blindness, and I just haven't been able to stop thinking about it -- thanks Chris, you're really helping my beauty rest. I've been wondering ever since: Are we really that banner blind? Anyway, here are my thoughts...

Banner Blindness definatly is real. It has been prooven that text links get a much higher click through rate, as well as taking up less space.

Matt

I agree, text links do get a higher click-through rate, but what about those PPC ads (like Google ads) that are a mix of the two and consist in boxes of text. Is it better to consider those banners or text? Consumers/users already know that those are ads, but these ads still contain some info (re ad copy). Although it is not as easy to "trick" users into clicking on these, they do try to sell themselves with the ad copy.
