Q&A with SearchAnyway - Page Rank

Question
How do I get higher Page Ranking?

Answer
In truth, Page Rank isn’t as important as people think – the only real use of page rank is to sell back links to the gullible.

But if Page Rank is your goal, achieving a high number is stunningly easy. Just create good content that people will naturally want to link to. That's all it takes, and it's much less time consuming than other alternatives which don't work anywhere near as well. The more work you put into your content, the less you'll need to put into link building and other esoteric SEO techniques.

Page rank is re-evaluated by Google 4 times a year, and I believe we're due for a report card this April. If you're a last minute scrambler, now's your time to shine.

Content is king my friend. Original, authoritative content has absolutely no substitute. The idea however is not simply to be indexed by Google via content, but to build a good amount of traffic. First-page ranking and consistent traffic don't necessarily go hand-in-hand. While I can't say I'll ever demote content to a second-place level of importance as far as SEO goes, with the advent of social networks, social book marketing and the whole Web 2.0. experience, content isn't enough.

How about YouTube? I'm surprised so few major (and even minor) companies have taken advantage of video sharing. Post some videos on your site! Anything! Everything! A commercial, a how-to, a video blog, something...get tagged, start a YouTube channel and get linked. Users who search for, say, "Coconuts" will definitely see your site up there.

Google owns YouTube - you don't think they're going to rank that content as high as possible? Organic search isn't as natural as we'd like to think.
