I set Online Video Trends

When discussing things that we could learn from SEOMoz, Michael Gray made me feel a bit self-conscious. Namely, he made me realize how I've been sliding on my vlogging. Nonetheless, a recent experience showed me that vlogging is a powerful marketing tool even if its not all that frequent.

Either way, I do have to start making more of an effort to vlog on a regular basis. As for what the gray wolf said to get me second guessing myself, though, it was that:

really producing videos is fun, producing them on a regular basis becomes work at some point. Having an obligation sets up an expectation you’ve got to fulfill, if you live up to your obligation the readers will come and they will subscribe.

He's right about having to deliver on a consistent basis being a lot of work, and because I've been busy lately, I haven't been delivering to my audience. As guilty as I've felt over this, however, I was recently reminded that vlogging does resonate with the public, and even inspires my audience from time to time. Take this email I received from John over at SearchTempo, and Aussie SEO firm:

Hey Chris, greetings from Brisbane, Australia.

You inspired me to throw up a video on the Internet. It got 52 views in the first 15 minutes after posting it to metacafe.com

I'm also getting a lot more subscribers to my weekly newsletter. I downloaded a trial version of some teleprompter software. It worked a treat.

So it's official: as infrequent as my vlogging can be, it's obviously resonating with readers. More to the point, however, vlogging is an effective marketing tool in and fo itself. Not only did John experience some positive results, but he himself got the idea to run with video from a blog that he likely only noticed because it contained video.

In either case, here's John's infomercial for SearchTempo.com. It was also previously posted on their blog.
