Efficiency Versus Entertainment

searchme_2.jpg In one of my earlier posts I wrote about the new search engine SearchMe.com, which has been available in Beta mode for some time now. In my post I've touched upon two innovative features this search engine was going to employ: visual fluidity and relevancy by niche. I remember myself being quite excited by these new user experience concepts.

Search Me Changes the SEO Balance

logo_searchme.jpg We are all of us blinded by Google, the set standard for the online search industry. So when new developments occur outside the Google-sphere, my interests start getting piqued. I have recently come across a new search engine called Search Me – an innovative web resource that, while not up and running yet, has unveiled the main principle it will operates on – visual fluidity and relevancy by niche.

UK Search Marketing Explained

neutralize-logo.gifWhether you're into e-commerce or search arbitrage the holidays often represent a perfect opportunity to launch a PPC advertising campaign. After all, more users are searching more services than any other time of years. Of course, the flip side of that coin is (1) keywords are that much more competitive, so (2) the risks associated with poor PPC campaign management are at their highest. Indeed, this is why it's essential to both plan well in advance and employ seasonal ad copy. If you're new to PPC, then, you face the tough choice of whether to gamble on either foregoing a potentially lucrative opportunity or squandering your online ad budget on inexperience. For first time advertisers looking to target UK audiences, however, the folks over at Neutralize (an SEM agency) have released a free 64 page report on the current state of the UK search marketing landscape.

Search Engine Wiki Means Opportunity for SEMers

A new wiki is filling a void in the search engine marketing industry. Furthermore, it's poised to offer quite a few opportunities to bot business development and affiliate marketing types alike. First, it's not only picking up the torch where directories dropped it, but carrying to even higher heights. Secondly, as most wikis, it's harnessing the wisdom of crowds to provide the community with more frequently updated information that do top-10 type lists. Most importantly, however, it is offering search engine marketers of all walks to become involved in the community in a way that can catapult their reputation and personal brand.

Yahoo and ABCsearch Target India?

It looks like Yahoo! Canada has responded to the partnership between Google and the Yellow Page Group that made the Canadian Yellow Pages first Canadian based reseller of Google AdWords. The Canadian arm of the number-two search engine has now teamed up with a second-tier search engine, ABCSearch, to increase the reach of its (Candian) sponsored listings. An interesting implication, however, is how ABCSearch might now be poised to expand into the Indian market.

ZoomInfo Improving B2B Online Advertising

That the only way to compete with Google is to outpace them in a vertical that they haven't yet developed means that the significance of niches in search engine marketing is huge. Well, it seems that the B2B search ZoomInfo is shoring up its niche efforts to corner the business user markeing in advertising. Specifically, shortly after striking a partnership with Xing, a business social network, ZoomInfo is launching an advertising platform that will allow their unique advertisers to target their users according to those users' demographics. If these ads will be simultaneously distributed across the Xing network, ZoomInfo might have a chance at aA href="http://blog.searchanyway.com/2007/09/zoominfo_surviving_the_faceboo.html">surviving the Facebook effect after all.

Ask.com in Ambush?

asklogo.pngWhile everyone seems to concede that it is too early to determine whether Ask.com's advertising campaign will flop, some underlying conflicts of interest in its execution seem to be hinting that it ultimately will. However, the average is often influenced in ways that savvy users (such as these commentators) are not, and it'll be easier to compete with Google if you've already swallowed up the respective market shares of Yahoo and MSN is another. In other words, there might be a method to Ask.com's marketing madness that industry insiders don't see because they can't see the forest from the trees.

Personalized Shooping Search: StylePath.com

With vertical search on the rise, it's no surprise that the market for shopping search products has become so competitive. A new player in the market, however, seems to have drawn inspiration from Pandora to create a kind of personalized search for shoppers. Essentially, StylePath.com allows users to create profile and then rate items on a scale of 1-10 so that when they're are browsing various categories or search results, they are shown items that are more suitable to their personal taste.

Yellow Pages Helps Pioneer PPC for Local Search

With local search expected to reach $81 billion by 2011, a lot of new competition and technologies are being attracted to the marketplace. After all, mobile web devices are paving the way for higher demand. Consequently, former near-monopolies such as the Yellow Pages are facing some of the fiercest competition imaginable. Rather than trying to beat them, however, the Yellow Pages is joining forces with the largest of search players: Google. The result promises to be a considerably rise in the PPC market.
