QuarterLife: Oh Please...

A little while back, MySpace dedcided to focus on content production to remain competitive. There was a partnership with Harper Collins and another with Virgin Comics. Their most notable undertaking, however, was their deal with the creators of Thirtysometing and My So Called Life to create a show called QuarterLife. Here's the show's description:
Description: A show about a group of twentysomethings coming of age in the digital generation. And a social network about what it means to be creative, to pursue a passion, to make a difference in the world, or just to find a place in it. Coming Nov. 11th to MySpace.

Here are my thoughts about this...

Wordpress Talks, Money Walks

So there's this movement within the Wordpress community to get rid of sponsored links/themes. It's being spearheaded by the likes of Matt Mullenweg (founding developer of Wordpress) and Mark Ghosh. Will Google Pirate Facebook

So lately, there's been all this hype around Facebook v.s. Google. Personally, I've speculated on how Facebook could be the next Google, but I haven't been alone. While Loren Baker thinks that Google might snatch them up to prevent Yahoo form doing so, Manoj Jasra sees nothing but mutual benefit from such an acquisition, and Ashkan from HipMojo thinks that Facebook is laready trying to sell. Following the story for Marketing Pilgim, Jordan McCollum thinks that Google has cause to fear Facebook, and now has a head up on how the two are linked again. It looks like Google's next move might be to develop a kind of aggregator for social networks. The pilot project is called Socialstream, and these are my thoughts on it.

The Internet is News -- Apparently

I like talking about how newspapers are dying because of the internet. There was the time they were falling short of projected ad revenues due to online classified. Then there was the time online editions were SEOing their headlines so that they could become more visible to compete with strictly online sources. And, of course, this all has to do with how (advertising revenues aside) newspapers just can't compete with online sources of information on the level of cost infrastructure. Well, it looks like newspapers are learning some humility, and are actually starting to turn to the internet as news item in and of itself. I guess the future of online advertising is looking pretty rosey after all...
